The Abbott RealTime CT/NG assay is an in vitro polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay for the direct, qualitative detection of the plasmid DNA for Chlamydia trachomatis and the genomic DNA of Neisseria gonorrhoeae in female endocervical or vaginal swab specimens, male urethral swab specimens, or male and female urine specimens.

The Abbott RealTime CT/NG assay uses PCR technology with homogenous real-time fluorescence detection. The CT/NG assay is used for the dual detection of the sexually transmitted disease pathogens, C. trachomatis and N. gonorrhoeae.

Abbott RealTime CT/NG is engineered to be both sensitive and specific for the detection of C.trachomatis and N. gonorrhoeae from a single sample.
