World Creativity and Innovation Day
BY Kapil Goyal 19th April 2019
By Kapil Goyal
There is an accelerating drive in health care for creativity and innovation to tackle key health challenges, improve quality and access, reduce harm and costs. Healthcare is one of the prominent and highest growing businesses in the world. As the world is getting smarter with technology, the healthcare industry is revamping with it.
Some of the concepts which are itself creative and innovative in one way or the other are:
- Healthcare Simulation
- Holo-Lens
- Artificial Intelligence (AI)
- Blockchain Technology
- Chatbots
- Big Data and Analytics
- Wearables Devices
Healthcare simulation is developing at a galloping pace starting from low fidelity mannequins to high fidelity simulators. The first simulator was developed in the early 1960s for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training followed by Simulation based training (SBT) in anesthesia and emergency medicine.
Simulation comprehensively involves artificial intelligence and HoloLens. AI leads to mimic human cognitive functions like gas exchanges, reactive pupils and so on.
Holo-lens increases the interaction by breaking the limits of 2-dimensional images by virtually extracting out the human organs and display, enlarge, turn, and rotate realistic-looking anatomical parts, or command them to return into the manikin body.
Simulation can possibly lessen the errors if or when a clinician is exposed to a similar real life condition. SBT creates a safe learning environment where mistakes made are not harmful or dangerous to patients, therefore provides a powerful learning experience for students. Learners are allowed to practice and commit mistakes in a controlled environment that provides them with an opportunity to learn from the mistakes made and with constructive feedback.
DSS Imagetech working in the field of healthcare simulation collaborated with CAE healthcare, USA, which has Patient Simulators, Ultrasound Simulators, and Surgical Simulators. These contribute to learning ultrasound imaging skills using ultrasound system controls, transducer positioning and movement, recognition of vessels found in the pediatric patient, and using ultrasound to guide the cannulation. Also, CAE VimedixAR is the first ultrasound simulator to integrate HoloLens.
This boom in healthcare tech. allows learners and inter-professional teams to develop teamwork, communication with a higher level of critical thinking skills.
