Biosafety
Biological safety cabinets (BSCs) are containment devices designed to guard personnel, product and the environment from exposure to biohazards and cross-contamination. They are the first means of containment for safely working with infectious microbes. The commonly used type II biosafety cabinets also provide product protection to stop the contamination of cultures.
Biosafety devices have an attached HEPA filter(s), designed to provide personnel as well as product protection from hazardous materials. The term should only be applied to those devices that meet the conditions of Class I, II, or III specifications, based on their construction, airflow velocities and patterns, and their exhaust systems.
Biological safety cabinets Type 2, A2 is mostly used all over the world. It provides 70% recirculation and 30% Exhaust. BioAir Class II Biosafety cabinets are the same as specified in the European Standard (EN 12469).
Laminar Airflow provides product or sample protection only, whereas Class II biosafety cabinets also protect the user and the environment, both within the laboratory and in the community.
